Basmane Pit is an idle area next to Kültürpark, the green area center of İzmir. A library was designed for the public by re-evaluating this area.

The main purpose of the master plan of this park, which is surrounded by a rich transportation network, is to divide the area into centers and to provide a fluid circulation axis between these centers. For this, the area is parametrically divided into circles that do not intersect with each other. Circles with large radius form the centers, circles with small radius form the transport axes.

SKIN & BONES

There are two types of column systems in the building. Reinforced concrete columns carrying the first floor and steel structures supporting the roof.

The circles that make up the masterplan give the location of the steel structures that will support the roof. Columns have different dimensions from each other due to the fact that the circles have different radius.

Diamond-cut cavities feature custom-made glass.
This form also transmits rain water to the underground water storage system, the stored water can be used in the gardening of the park.

The glass facade is gently sloping and adapts to the curvy form of the roof. The diomand cut in the columns is also seen here. And again, custom made tempered glass is used.
